This wetsuit temperature guide will assist with selecting the right wetsuit and thermal layers. Note this is a guide and we recommend if you tend to get cold easily that you go with a thicker wetsuit or additional layers. UV Rashguards, Thermal Layers, Boardshorts & Skinsuits

Temperature

Rashguards come in tops and bottoms, these protect you from harmful UV rays and things like sea lice and jellies. Thermal Layers can be worn independently for light thermal protection or under a wetsuit for additional thermal protection. Skinsuits can also be worn independently for thermal, UV protection or as a layering garment under your wetsuit. Skinsuits are made of different materials such as poly blends for warmth or nylon blends for skin protection.

THICKNESS: 0-1mm

Neoprene Jackets, Thermal Layers & Neoprene Tops & Bottoms

Temperature

Neoprene jackets, thermal layers and neoprene shorts and pants provide protection from cool waters as well as UV protection. UV protective clothing also includes rashguards / sunshirts and rash shorts and pants. These items can be mixed and matched or layered with a wetsuit to provide extra insulation in waters of approximately 70°F and above.

THICKNESS: .5mm - 2.5mm

Full Wetsuits, Sleeveless Wetsuits, Springsuits & Booties (Mild)

Temperature

Choose from 2 - 3mm Full Wetsuits, Sleeveless Wetsuits, Springsuit wetsuits these water temperatures. We also recommend neoprene boots or swim socks. The seam construction can vary with 2mm and 3mm wetsuits. Some are Flatlock breathable seams for warmer waters and some seams are GBS (glued and blind stitched) sealed seamed wetsuits that keep you warmer. If you get cold easily, we recommend going with sealed (GBS) wetsuit seams over flatlock stitching, it will keep you warmer.

THICKNESS: 2 - 3/2mm Flatlock Stitching & GBS (glued & blind stitched)

Full Wetsuits, Boots, Gloves, Hoods & Springsuits (Moderate)

Temperature

Choose from 3 - 3/2mm GBS (glued and blind stitched) sealed seam full wetsuits and springsuit wetsuits. If you go with a Springsuit we recommend GBS (sealed seam wetsuits). They come in long and short sleeve options. We also recommend wearing booties (neoprene boots), neoprene gloves and hoods. These wetsuit accessories assist in providing compression and thermal protection. The compression and thermal properties can aid in blood circulation which in turn can keep you warmer.

THICKNESS: 3mm - 3/2mm GBS

Full Wetsuits (GBS), Boots, Gloves, Hoods & Thermal Layers (Chilly)

Temperature

Choose from 4/3mm Full Wetsuits. These suits are are typically made of 4mm thick neoprene in the chest, back and core body with 3mm thick neoprene in the arms. The seams are typically sealed with a glued and a blind stitch and some of these suits can have welded seams. Welded seams provide more durability and water tight seams. These wetsuits often have features like lined laments that can be heat retaining & water repelling. Some have features like water barriers and special seals at the wrist and ankles. We highly recommend wearing Boots, Gloves, Hoods and Thermal Layers.

THICKNESS: 4/3mm GBS

Full Wetsuits with & without Hoods, Boots, Gloves & Thermal Layers (Brrrrrr)

Choose from 5mm - 5/4/3mm Wetsuits with & without hoods. 5/4/3 wetsuits combine three different neoprene thicknesses. These wetsuits are typically sealed with a glued and a blind stitch, some of these suits can have welded single or double welded seams. A double welded seam in one that has a weld on the seam in the inside of the suit as well as the outside. These wetsuits often have features like lined lamnets that can be heat retaining & water repelling. Often these wetsuits have water barriers and special features at the wrists and ankles. We recommend wearing Boots, Gloves, Hoods and Layers. There are also heated layers you may want to explore.

THICKNESS: 5-5/4/3mm GBS

Full Wetsuits with & without Hoods, Boots, Gloves & Thermal Layers (VERY COLD)

Choose from 6mm - 9mm Wetsuits with and without hoods. In some cases you will see suits that have several thicknesses like a 6/5/4mm wetsuit. These types of wetsuits combine different neoprene thicknesses, the thicker neoprene in the core back and body of the suit. These wetsuits are typically sealed with a glued and a blind stitch, some of these suits can have welded seams inside and out. These wetsuits often have features like lined laments that can be heat retaining & water repelling. Additionally these wetsuits have water barriers, water resistant zippers and special seals at the wrists and ankles. We highly recommend wearing Boots, Gloves, Hoods and Thermal Layers.
